Choosing Hair Extensions

Choosing Hair Extensions To Suit You

Shopping for a new hairstyle can be exciting, but the product needs to look right on you, not just in the store or on the website. Flip-In’s impressive assortment of colours, lengths and styles means you have near limitless options! We can see how choosing hair extensions from this massive list might be intimidating, but never fear, Flip-In is here, to guide you through colours, products and styles.

The Practical Side Of Choosing Hair Extensions

We have straight, bodywave, wider, back, lite and spiral curl hair extensions. But which ones to choose? Ringlets? Summery beach waves?

Our extensions, made from 100% human hair, can be curled or straightened normally to suit any occasion, provided you take the correct precautions to protect them from heat. Alternatively, you can style your hair to match the product. If you’re choosing hair extensions for the first time, it might be wiser to pick ones that are a continuation of your natural hairstyle, so you don’t have to worry about seamlessly blending the two.

Selecting The Perfect Style

If you’re feeling adventurous and confident in your blending and styling abilities, then it’s time to consider your face shape. None of these are hard and fast rules, but they can serve as an effective guide.

People with oval-shaped faces can generally take their pick of hairstyles, but you should be aware when choosing a long straight extension that they appear to lengthen the face. This can be a strong choice for round faces, as long hair has a slimming effect.

Bodywaves are looser curls, soft and versatile, suitable for round, square, long and triangular-shaped faces. They add plenty of volume without stacking it up around the crown. Bodywave extensions might be a good call if you’re uncertain.

Spiral curls are tight ringlet-type curls. They are very effective at adding volume and a good move for rectangular and heart-shaped faces where you want to increase the face width. Spiral curl and bodywave styles are available for lite, wider, back and original products, attesting to their popularity.

We have our own special solution for fine hair with our Flip-In Lite, if you think our extensions sound too bulky. If your hair is on the thin side, this product was designed especially for you! It’s available in straight, spiral curl or body wave versions and in our full range of colours so, one way or another, we’ve got you covered.

Finding The Right Colour

Colours are controversial. Some experts claim that warmer complexions should be reflected in warmer hair colours such as yellow, copper or red, whereas other experts advocate for warm skin tones and cooler hair colours such as green, violet or ash. At Flip-In Hair, we don’t care, so long as you are happy! That’s why we offer a professional colour matching service, so you can know that you have made the right decision.

If you’re at a complete loss, look at your eyes. Blue or grey eyes complement lighter hair, dark eyes suit brunette shades and green eyes go wonderfully with red.

Remember, you can’t tint or dye your extensions without risking damage. Luckily, with 40 different shades to choose from, plus two-tone and tri-blend products, that shouldn’t be necessary.

Styling Hair Extensions

Tips and Tricks for Styling Hair Extensions

How do you recreate the new spring hair craze without buying more extensions or damaging what you’ve already bought? Luckily, styling hair extensions is simpler and safer with creations made from 100% human hair, like Flip-In’s products. With the correct precautions, there is nothing to stop you from achieving bouncy curls or neat straight locks with minimum fuss.

Styling Hair Extensions With Heat

Applying heat to synthetic hair can cause untold damage, increasing the likelihood of fragile and broken strands or even shrinkage. Luckily, heat tools are no threat to our authentic creations provided the required protection is always used.

Heat protectant is available as an oil, spray or serum, to be applied either to wet or dry hair. It also protects your natural tresses, with various manufacturers claiming to eliminate frizz and ensure a shiny finish, making such a purchase thoroughly worth it.

Before using a hairdryer, squeeze out any excess water from the extensions. Spray or smooth wet-hair-appropriate protectant onto your locks from root to tip and gently blow-dry until any lingering water droplets disappear. Next, section the hair and begin drying in earnest. Some people prefer to leave the brushing stage until afterwards, although others recommend using a comb to detangle the extensions before getting down to business.

When you’re reaching for the curling tongs it is crucial to make sure that your extensions are absolutely Sahara-dry. Wet hair is more fragile and so heating damp strands is a recipe for brittleness, dullness, split ends and tangling. Bottom line – make sure your hair is dry and your protectant is set.

From this point onwards, styling your hair extensions is exactly the same as styling your natural hair!

Cool Styling

Styling hair extensions without using heat is fairly easy and has come a long way since the hard rollers we saw on the 1950s television housewife. For instance, you can roll portions of your hair around foam spiral rollers and then clip the roller ends together to form a comfortable loop.

Alternatively, plait your hair into multiple braids and keep them in for a night. Shake them out in the morning, carefully pulling apart the knots with your fingers, and add hairspray for longer-lasting results. Adjust the number of plaits according to how tight you want your waves. Sometimes the tried and tested methods are the best!

Styling Hair Extensions: Tips And Tricks

We’ll leave you with two pieces of advice and a warning before you dive into styling hair extensions:

Remember to blend! Depending on its length, you may want to curl or crimp your own crowning glory to ensure it merges perfectly.

Hair oil provides nourishment, improves shine and helps restore any damage unwittingly caused by heat.

A word to the wise – dying or tinting extensions is a risky business and could wreak havoc on your purchase, so we recommend that you make sure you are 100% happy with the colour you have chosen.

Spring Hair Care

Spring Hair Care Tips

What’s this? A sun that actually generates warmth? Going outside without a coat? Walks in the rain that manage to be romantic rather than painful? But there’s a dark side to this welcome warmth. As the temperature changes, your hair becomes more fragile and prone to shedding, exacerbated by excessive sun exposure, whilst April raindrops wash away the natural oils. So what to do during the spring days when the last thing you want to do is hide your hair under a hat? Perhaps you need a new spring hair care routine…

Spring Hair Care Tips To Avoid Breakage

Should you wash your hair frequently during warmer weather? Protect it from raindrops transferring dirt from the air to the scalp? Our advice…don’t. The more you wash and shampoo your locks the more you risk breakage and washing out the natural oils, which keep your scalp healthy.

Similarly, you might want to adjust your spring hair care routine by brushing out your hair before showering, and switching out heat-based curling methods for gentler ones such as rollers – this prevents fragility and minimises spring shedding.

Hair Care Tips To Nourish Your Scalp

If you have a dry scalp, or your hair washing has already proved too rigorous, there are plenty of ways in which to supplement the oils in your hair, so don’t panic!

You can massage a teaspoon of coconut oil, argan oil, or a mixture of plant-based hair oils (olive, almond, castor) into your scalp to rejuvenate it. Following this spring hair care tip will also reduce dandruff and promote hair growth – bonus!

There’s also the option to supplement your spring diet with foods high in oils and fatty acids, such as certain types of fish (mackerel, salmon, herring). Avocados, nuts and seeds are brilliant repositories of vitamins and essential fatty acids (and they taste delicious)! Even dark chocolate has a lot to offer, containing nutrients which prevent sun damage and improve hair quality.

Alternative Ways To Care For Your Hair This Spring

Consider nourishing your hair with a leave-in treatment. Hair masks are sometimes applied dry, sometimes wet and some are left on while you sleep, whichever suits your spring hair care routine.

Or there are leave-in conditioners – there are hundreds of different products available to you! They do everything from nourishing split ends to reducing frizz. They also add moisture and eliminate tangles after washing. Easy-peasy to apply, just towel dry your hair after washing and then smooth the conditioner in. Brush, and either style or leave alone to dry. Minimal effort, leaving you to take that walk in the park or sun yourself in the garden while the oils and butters do their thing.

Spring Hairstyles

Spring Hairstyles To Try In 2022

A new season means one thing – new spring hairstyles! Of course, the arrival of this season also marks the start of longer days and warmer evenings, but why not think about your hair too? There’s nothing like mixing things up a little and now is the perfect time to do just that!

Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t worry, because the Flip-In Hair team are here to help! We’re going to share everything we know about the latest hairstyle trends for spring 2022!

Why Not Embrace Your Natural Hair This Spring?

One of the biggest spring hairstyles we’ll see this season is embracing your natural hair and everything that comes with it! Whether it’s beachy waves or tight curls, why not work with what you’ve got instead of spending hours manipulating your tresses?

To make this spring hairstyle a little easier for you to manage, it’s definitely in your best interest to grab some products that work for you: sulphate-free shampoo and a leave-in curl cream, for example. Going down the sulphate-free route means you will be able to minimise any potential damage to your locks, whilst ensuring that you can still thoroughly cleanse your hair.

However, if this isn’t quite for you, our next option might be the perfect alternative!

For Simple Spring Hairstyles, Think Straight And Sleek

Another trend we’re sure to see this spring is straight, sleek styles, most likely featuring a middle parting. If you’ve been on TikTok over the last few months, you’ll have seen that Gen Z have spoken and middle parts are in. Don’t get us wrong, we’re not saying you need to listen to everything you hear on TikTok, but this is something that we’re in agreement with.

In order to get this look, you need to think about the tools you’re using and protect your hair against any heat damage. There’s nothing more annoying than styling your hair, only to find out you’ve been left with dry, lifeless locks. What’s even worse is realising that even after trying your best to look after your hair… something is still missing. If that’s the case, we know what you need – Flip-In Hair Lite. These extensions have been designed to give thin hair the oomph it needs to complete any one of the fabulous new spring hairstyles we’ve mentioned today.

If you still want to rock a side parting, we’re here for it! Whatever you want to do with your look this spring, we’ve got you covered. With no clips, glue or weaving, our extensions are easy to fit and incredibly comfortable to wear. Our team is always on hand to help you with any questions you may have.

Hair Care Tips

The Best Hair Care Tips We’ve Been Given

Over the years, we’ve heard a lot of advice about what we should and shouldn’t be doing to our hair. Some so-called tips were just old wives’ tales, but that can’t be said for everything! Looking after your hair can be something of a minefield and that’s exactly why the Flip-In Hair team are going to share the best hair care tips we’ve been given with you, just to make your life a little bit easier!

The Best And Easiest Hair Care Tip – Wash Your Hair Regularly

This might sound like an obvious one, but we’re sharing it for good reason! Sometimes, because it can seem like it just takes too much time and effort to wash your hair, some people try to go as long as possible without washing theirs. However, this is not something we recommend.

Why is this one of the best hair care tips we’ve been given? Well, it all comes down to scalp buildup, which you’re probably familiar with. When you forego washing your hair, sebum (it’s on your scalp too), sweat, styling products and a host of other things settle on your scalp. This can make it flaky and itchy. If you wait too long, bacteria will start to form and your hair will smell pretty unpleasant. When this happens, you need to reach for the shampoo.

Thoroughly washing and conditioning your hair ensures it’s free from buildup, and healthy too! You can even throw in a scalp scrub if you’ve decided to go for it! When everything we mentioned above starts to form on your scalp, it can also stop it from growing. Hair grows up and out of the scalp, so if anything gets in its way, it simply won’t grow. Sometimes, the best hair care tips are the simplest ones.

Make Sure You Protect Your Hair

We know that this hair care tip is also one that seems pretty obvious but we stand by it. It’s still one of the best hair care tips we have! Whether it’s making sure you use a heat protectant spray before using your straighteners, or getting a regular trim every few months; there are loads of little things you can do to take some of the pressure off your hair.

At times, whether it’s because of the new year, or a break-up, you may feel as though you need to completely change your hair. This impulsive thought often ends up doing much more harm than good. But there’s no need to do anything drastic, thanks to Flip-In Hair.

Our luxury hair extensions allow you to change your look without inflicting any damage on your hair. As there are no clips, glue or weaving involved, you won’t have to think about harming your tresses. If you’re desperate for long hair to the point you’re not getting a trim, you need Flip-In Hair Straight – The Original. If you need even more body for your hair, opt for Flip-In Hair Straight – Wider. This style allows the hair to fit around the back of your head, over the ears and nearer to your face and it’s available in a selection of colours and lengths.

You can check out all of our products and see what’s possible on our website.

Growing Out A Pixie Cut

Top Tips For Growing Out A Pixie Cut

Growing out a pixie cut is without a doubt one of the most frustrating experiences you can go through, even if the end result is a brand new style with endless possibilities.

If your pixie cut is still in the preliminary stages of growth and you’re just starting your journey, you’re yet to go through the inevitable awkward phase. At Flip-In Hair, we think it’s in your best interest to prepare for what’s to come and we’re here to guide you through the process. So strap in and get ready to read our top tips for growing out a pixie cut.

Pixie Cut

Style It Out Whilst You Are Growing Out Your Pixie Cut

When you start growing your pixie cut out, your hair is going to look a bit… choppy. Sadly, that’s something you can’t avoid for a few months. You can either hide away or you can embrace your shaggy layers, after all, they’ll soon be a distant memory! There’s nothing more annoying than trying to disguise what’s happening on top of our heads, so we don’t think you should.

To get around this, opt for products that create volume and define your layers, such as root-boosting powders and texturising gum. If you’re in between washes, dry shampoo can also give you the volume you need until you next wash your hair. These products will shift focus and make it look like your newfound hairstyle is entirely intentional until it gets a little bit longer.

If In Doubt, Accessorise

Accessories have the potential to cover up bad hair days. Expect plenty of these when you don’t have a pixie cut anymore but you also don’t have a bob just yet. When your hair hits this stage, let accessories become your friend, they will be sure to help you in the long run.

Headscarves, hats and hairbands are perfect if you’re looking to hide your hair as it continues to grow. These accessories are lifesavers when styling your hair just isn’t on the agenda. If you fancy being a little bit more adventurous, clips are the way forward. You can use bobby pins to pin curl your locks, which will hopefully inject a bit of 50s glamour into your day. You can also pin back the longer sections of your hair that contribute to the mullet vibe you’re probably trying to avoid. If you’re not opposed to hiding a mullet, we’re honestly very impressed. If it’s good enough for Miley Cyrus…

Embrace Extensions

Once your hair finally resembles a bob, you’re essentially unstoppable! As soon as your pixie cut is a thing of the past, you’ll have so many more options to choose from, including extensions! We know they might seem overwhelming, especially if you grew up in the early 2000s (looking at you, Christina Aguilera) but there’s no need to fear!

As we know, extensions have the ability to make or break your entire look. Fortunately, with our product range, paired with our colour match service and expertise, you’ll always be in safe hands. You’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, you deserve to make the most of it.

How We Can Help You Whilst You Grow Out A Pixie Cut

At Flip-In Hair, we can help change your hair in a heartbeat. If you’re new to the world of extensions and you’re not sure where to turn, you’re in luck!

Autumn Hair Care

Autumn Hair Care: How To Look After Your Hair This Season

With the sun setting on the summer, it might be time to start thinking about your autumn hair care routine. We know what you’re thinking and yes, you really do need to switch up your routine as the seasons change! In order to keep your hair in the best condition possible, adjustments need to be made. Fortunately, there’s no need to worry about figuring out what to do because we’ve got you covered. Here are our top tips for the perfect autumn hair.

Autumn Hair Care

Autumn Hair Care Step 1: Amp Up The Moisture

There’s nothing like cold air to suck the life out of your hair, making it not only dry, but frizzy too. We all know that the drier your hair is, the more prone to breakage it is, so keeping your hair hydrated is key. One way to do this is to switch to a shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for dry hair during the colder months of the year.

For even more moisture, you could consider adding hair oil into the mix as well. Using hair oil sparingly can work wonders for your hair and lock in moisture.

There are two ways to go about using oils. For a quick boost, you could add a few drops to the ends of your hair after washing it, or you could take it to the next level. Massaging oil into your scalp, working it through the rest of your hair and leaving it overnight before washing it will give you intensely hydrated hair. There are loads of oils you could turn to: coconut, argan, almond or caster to name but a few. These oils will also target a dry scalp, if that’s something you suffer from.

Autumn Hair Care Step 2: Focus On Your Scalp

More often than not, we’re so concerned about our hair, we forget about our scalp! As we reach the chillier months of the year, our scalp has a tendency to become dry and irritated. This is due to a number of factors but the cold weather is most likely to be the main culprit. A change in diet and chronic conditions like eczema may also be to blame. If you can help it, keeping your scalp hydrated is really beneficial for your hair as a dry scalp can also lead to hair loss.

Oils aren’t the only way to treat your scalp. Clarifying shampoo and scalp scrubs can really work their magic on dandruff. Using these products on a regular basis (at least once a week) can stop dandruff in its tracks and keep your scalp fresh until the first signs of spring. Paying attention to your hairbrush is also important. Using a paddle brush is great for massaging the scalp and will also be gentle on your hair too. If you want to know which brush is best for you, check out one of our latest blog posts to find out more.

Autumn Hair Care Step 3: Time For A Haircut?

As we mentioned earlier, dry hair is a much more common occurrence in autumn and winter. A mix of central heating and changes in the weather can negatively affect your hair, making it more prone to damage. If your hair is already damaged, it’s only going to make matters worse. It’s best to target things such as split ends when you first see them cropping up.

If left untreated, split ends will work their way up the affected strands of hair until they eventually snap. The only way to treat them is to get rid! Booking an appointment with your hairdresser when you start to see falling leaves is the best way to ensure your tresses won’t end up looking dull and lacklustre.

How We Can Help

Keeping your hair in tip-top shape is one thing but sometimes, you just fancy a bit of a change. Being able to change your look with ease this autumn gives you the freedom to create whatever style you’d like.

At Flip-In Hair, we can help. If it’s length and volume you want to achieve, we can definitely do that. Or maybe you just want a thicker, fuller ponytail? You should also make sure you check out our colour match service so your hair can stay as seamless as possible.

Autumn Hair Care Tips

Autumn Hair Care Tips

Autumn is rapidly approaching and you should be starting to ready your hair for the weather change and a brand new hair care routine.

Autumn Hair

Treat Yourself To A Trim

We all know that, as a rule, we should be getting regular cuts every 6-8 weeks. Yet, as summer ends, we should be thinking about getting rid of that summer damage as soon as possible. The sun weakens our hair’s protein structure, dries it out and reduces its elasticity, making it prone to breakage. A post-summer trim will help to eliminate this damage and make room for your fresh, healthy hair to grow and flourish.

Scalp Care And Combating Dryness

As we head into autumn we need to re-moisturise our hair. To make this happen, use a mask or gloss once a week as they will add moisture to your hair and reduce the dryness left behind from summer. The change in weather will also mean your hair is put through more stress, so using a deep conditioning treatment will ensure it stays happy and healthy.

Washing your hair too often will strip it of the essential oils produced by your body, leaving it malnourished and dry. Generally speaking, it’s said you should wash your hair two to three times a week, however, this depends on your hair type. An easy way to ensure your hair gets all those beautiful nutrients from your scalp is to brush it at night to help push these towards the ends.

Following The Correct Diet

As with anything to do with the body, having the correct diet is imperative. Hair is made of protein, so including this in your diet is going to help keep it strong. Protein can be found in foods such as chicken, fish, eggs and dairy products. For vegetarians or vegans, legumes and nuts are good options.

Omega-3 provides oils that hydrate your hair and scalp. Good sources of Omega-3 include salmon, herring and sardines. This also appears in avocado, pumpkin seeds and walnuts.

Try to include Biotin in your diet as well as too little can cause your hair to become brittle, making it prone to dryness and breakage. Biotin can be found in liver and egg yolks. Alternatively, non-meat eaters could choose wholegrains, soy flour or yeast. Biotin can also be purchased in pill form at most supplement stores.

Not having enough iron can lead to hair loss! Our hair follicles and roots are fed by our blood supply, so ensuring you have enough iron is extremely beneficial. Opt for foods such as red meat, chicken and fish. Vegetarian and vegan options include lentils, spinach, kale, broccoli and general leafy greens. Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron, and you can find this in foods like blackcurrants, blueberries, strawberries and sweet potatoes.
