The Best Hair Care Tips We’ve Been Given

Over the years, we’ve heard a lot of advice about what we should and shouldn’t be doing to our hair. Some so-called tips were just old wives’ tales, but that can’t be said for everything! Looking after your hair can be something of a minefield and that’s exactly why the Flip-In Hair team are going to share the best hair care tips we’ve been given with you, just to make your life a little bit easier!

The Best And Easiest Hair Care Tip – Wash Your Hair Regularly

This might sound like an obvious one, but we’re sharing it for good reason! Sometimes, because it can seem like it just takes too much time and effort to wash your hair, some people try to go as long as possible without washing theirs. However, this is not something we recommend.

Why is this one of the best hair care tips we’ve been given? Well, it all comes down to scalp buildup, which you’re probably familiar with. When you forego washing your hair, sebum (it’s on your scalp too), sweat, styling products and a host of other things settle on your scalp. This can make it flaky and itchy. If you wait too long, bacteria will start to form and your hair will smell pretty unpleasant. When this happens, you need to reach for the shampoo.

Thoroughly washing and conditioning your hair ensures it’s free from buildup, and healthy too! You can even throw in a scalp scrub if you’ve decided to go for it! When everything we mentioned above starts to form on your scalp, it can also stop it from growing. Hair grows up and out of the scalp, so if anything gets in its way, it simply won’t grow. Sometimes, the best hair care tips are the simplest ones.

Make Sure You Protect Your Hair

We know that this hair care tip is also one that seems pretty obvious but we stand by it. It’s still one of the best hair care tips we have! Whether it’s making sure you use a heat protectant spray before using your straighteners, or getting a regular trim every few months; there are loads of little things you can do to take some of the pressure off your hair.

At times, whether it’s because of the new year, or a break-up, you may feel as though you need to completely change your hair. This impulsive thought often ends up doing much more harm than good. But there’s no need to do anything drastic, thanks to Flip-In Hair.

Our luxury hair extensions allow you to change your look without inflicting any damage on your hair. As there are no clips, glue or weaving involved, you won’t have to think about harming your tresses. If you’re desperate for long hair to the point you’re not getting a trim, you need Flip-In Hair Straight – The Original. If you need even more body for your hair, opt for Flip-In Hair Straight – Wider. Autumn Hair Care: How To Look After Your Hair This Season

With the sun setting on the summer, it might be time to start thinking about your autumn hair care routine. We know what you’re thinking and yes, you really do need to switch up your routine as the seasons change! In order to keep your hair in the best condition possible, adjustments need to be made. Fortunately, there’s no need to worry about figuring out what to do because we’ve got you covered. Here are our top tips for the perfect autumn hair.

Autumn Hair Care

Autumn Hair Care Step 1: Amp Up The Moisture

There’s nothing like cold air to suck the life out of your hair, making it not only dry, but frizzy too. We all know that the drier your hair is, the more prone to breakage it is, so keeping your hair hydrated is key. One way to do this is to switch to a shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for dry hair during the colder months of the year.

For even more moisture, you could consider adding hair oil into the mix as well. Using hair oil sparingly can work wonders for your hair and lock in moisture.

There are two ways to go about using oils. For a quick boost, you could add a few drops to the ends of your hair after washing it, or you could take it to the next level. Massaging oil into your scalp, working it through the rest of your hair and leaving it overnight before washing it will give you intensely hydrated hair. There are loads of oils you could turn to: coconut, argan, almond or caster to name but a few. These oils will also target a dry scalp, if that’s something you suffer from.

Autumn Hair Care Step 2: Focus On Your Scalp

More often than not, we’re so concerned about our hair, we forget about our scalp! As we reach the chillier months of the year, our scalp has a tendency to become dry and irritated. This is due to a number of factors but the cold weather is most likely to be the main culprit. A change in diet and chronic conditions like eczema may also be to blame. If you can help it, keeping your scalp hydrated is really beneficial for your hair as a dry scalp can also lead to hair loss.

Oils aren’t the only way to treat your scalp. Clarifying shampoo and scalp scrubs can really work their magic on dandruff. Using these products on a regular basis (at least once a week) can stop dandruff in its tracks and keep your scalp fresh until the first signs of spring. Paying attention to your hairbrush is also important. Using a paddle brush is great for massaging the scalp and will also be gentle on your hair too. If you want to know which brush is best for you, check out one of our latest blog posts to find out more.

Autumn Hair Care Step 3: Time For A Haircut?

As we mentioned earlier, dry hair is a much more common occurrence in autumn and winter. A mix of central heating and changes in the weather can negatively affect your hair, making it more prone to damage. If your hair is already damaged, it’s only going to make matters worse. It’s best to target things such as split ends when you first see them cropping up.

If left untreated, split ends will work their way up the affected strands of hair until they eventually snap. The only way to treat them is to get rid! Booking an appointment with your hairdresser when you start to see falling leaves is the best way to ensure your tresses won’t end up looking dull and lacklustre.

Autumn Hair Care Tips

Autumn is rapidly approaching and you should be starting to ready your hair for the weather change and a brand new hair care routine.

Treat Yourself To A Trim

We all know that, as a rule, we should be getting regular cuts every 6-8 weeks. Yet, as summer ends, we should be thinking about getting rid of that summer damage as soon as possible. The sun weakens our hair’s protein structure, dries it out and reduces its elasticity, making it prone to breakage. A post-summer trim will help to eliminate this damage and make room for your fresh, healthy hair to grow and flourish.

Scalp Care And Combating Dryness

As we head into autumn we need to re-moisturise our hair. To make this happen, use a mask or gloss once a week as they will add moisture to your hair and reduce the dryness left behind from summer. The change in weather will also mean your hair is put through more stress, so using a deep conditioning treatment will ensure it stays happy and healthy.

Washing your hair too often will strip it of the essential oils produced by your body, leaving it malnourished and dry. Generally speaking, it’s said you should wash your hair two to three times a week, however, this depends on your hair type. An easy way to ensure your hair gets all those beautiful nutrients from your scalp is to brush it at night to help push these towards the ends.

Following The Correct Diet

As with anything to do with the body, having the correct diet is imperative. Hair is made of protein, so including this in your diet is going to help keep it strong. Protein can be found in foods such as chicken, fish, eggs and dairy products. For vegetarians or vegans, legumes and nuts are good options.

Omega-3 provides oils that hydrate your hair and scalp. Good sources of Omega-3 include salmon, herring and sardines. This also appears in avocado, pumpkin seeds and walnuts.

Try to include Biotin in your diet as well as too little can cause your hair to become brittle, making it prone to dryness and breakage. Biotin can be found in liver and egg yolks. Alternatively, non-meat eaters could choose wholegrains, soy flour or yeast. Biotin can also be purchased in pill form at most supplement stores.

Not having enough iron can lead to hair loss! Our hair follicles and roots are fed by our blood supply, so ensuring you have enough iron is extremely beneficial. Opt for foods such as red meat, chicken and fish. Vegetarian and vegan options include lentils, spinach, kale, broccoli and general leafy greens. Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron, and you can find this in foods like blackcurrants, blueberries, strawberries and sweet potatoes.
