Easy Halloween Hair

Easy Halloween Hair

Halloween is quickly approaching and if you’re anything like us, you aren’t prepared in the slightest. No need to worry though, we have plenty of ideas for easy Halloween hair. Some of them don’t even need a costume to go along with them. How handy is that?!

Cat Ears

Listen, we’re well aware that cats are overdone BUT hear us out. Using the Flip-In Ponytail, you can create a cat-ear look with your actual hair. Throw away the boring cat-ear headband and make a little more effort this year.

Who said you couldn’t use your makeup to create an even more exciting look? The best part about being a cat is that you don’t even need to head out and buy an outfit. Everyone has an all-black outfit hiding in their wardrobe for an occasion just like this!

Harley Quinn

You’ll need an outfit for this one but it won’t be anything too extravagant. A simple white vest and a pair of denim shorts will suffice. Using Flip-In Flash, create the perfect Harley Quinn Halloween look with our pink and blue colours!

This is a simple Halloween costume to put together and you’ll be able to spice it up with cool makeup. Use pink, blue and white to draw stars around your eyes and wow everyone at your Halloween party.

Easy Halloween Hair- Pumpkin

This is an easy-to-do look that requires no special outfit. Use Flip-In Flash (or an orange hairspray) and make a high bun to give your hair a pumpkin effect.

Add a high bun with a hair donut. Use the Flip-In hairpiece or some hairspray to get the perfect colour for that pumpkin effect. Finish with little plastic spiders and a spider’s web to give that creepy-crawly craziness for Halloween.

Real Hair Extensions vs Synthetic Hair Extensions

There are a lot of different types of hair extensions around at the moment and it can be difficult to decide which is best. We’ll be discussing the benefits of both real hair, and synthetic hair to help you discover which type is the best fit for you.

hair extensions

Benefits Of Real Hair Extensions

The main benefit of using real hair is that they will always look more natural than synthetic hair. With these extensions, you’ll be able to treat and style your look the same way you would your natural hair. This means there’s no need to worry about using the wrong techniques or products!

As well as being about to style them with ease, human hair ones will be sure to last longer than their synthetic counterparts. Real halo hair extensions can last around 6-18 months, whereas synthetic extensions will last 2-3 months. Of course, this is only possible if both types of extensions are properly cared for.

Benefits Of Synthetic Hair

Synthetic extensions are easy to maintain as they come with a style and curl pattern already applied to them. When it comes to restyling your synthetic extensions, all you need to do is wet them with cold water, give them a ruffle, and they’ll go back to their original state. Simple!

When you colour synthetic hair, the results will last for longer as their fibres hold the dye better than real hair does. If you purchase coloured synthetic hair extensions, you don’t have to worry about them fading in a hurry. The cost of synthetic hair is also much lower than that of real extensions. This means you could buy 2-3 different synthetic variants instead of just one made from real hair.

Our Opinion

In our opinion, we prefer real hair extensions and will always opt for them. Flip-In customers always receive the best quality products and we don’t mess around when it comes to extensions! We absolutely love real hair extensions, how could we not? It’s what we do best!

All the other benefits aside, you’ll always want your extension choice to look as natural as possible and that is only achievable with human hair. They will feel and look just like your natural hair, just a little bit better. If we’ve convinced you, try out our very own Flip-In Original or for a hint of colour try out Flip-In Flash

Autumn Hair Care Tips

Autumn Hair Care Tips

Autumn is rapidly approaching and you should be starting to ready your hair for the weather change and a brand new hair care routine.

Autumn Hair

Treat Yourself To A Trim

We all know that, as a rule, we should be getting regular cuts every 6-8 weeks. Yet, as summer ends, we should be thinking about getting rid of that summer damage as soon as possible. The sun weakens our hair’s protein structure, dries it out and reduces its elasticity, making it prone to breakage. A post-summer trim will help to eliminate this damage and make room for your fresh, healthy hair to grow and flourish.

Scalp Care And Combating Dryness

As we head into autumn we need to re-moisturise our hair. To make this happen, use a mask or gloss once a week as they will add moisture to your hair and reduce the dryness left behind from summer. The change in weather will also mean your hair is put through more stress, so using a deep conditioning treatment will ensure it stays happy and healthy.

Washing your hair too often will strip it of the essential oils produced by your body, leaving it malnourished and dry. Generally speaking, it’s said you should wash your hair two to three times a week, however, this depends on your hair type. An easy way to ensure your hair gets all those beautiful nutrients from your scalp is to brush it at night to help push these towards the ends.

Following The Correct Diet

As with anything to do with the body, having the correct diet is imperative. Hair is made of protein, so including this in your diet is going to help keep it strong. Protein can be found in foods such as chicken, fish, eggs and dairy products. For vegetarians or vegans, legumes and nuts are good options.

Omega-3 provides oils that hydrate your hair and scalp. Good sources of Omega-3 include salmon, herring and sardines. This also appears in avocado, pumpkin seeds and walnuts.

Try to include Biotin in your diet as well as too little can cause your hair to become brittle, making it prone to dryness and breakage. Biotin can be found in liver and egg yolks. Alternatively, non-meat eaters could choose wholegrains, soy flour or yeast. Biotin can also be purchased in pill form at most supplement stores.

Not having enough iron can lead to hair loss! Our hair follicles and roots are fed by our blood supply, so ensuring you have enough iron is extremely beneficial. Opt for foods such as red meat, chicken and fish. Vegetarian and vegan options include lentils, spinach, kale, broccoli and general leafy greens. Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron, and you can find this in foods like blackcurrants, blueberries, strawberries and sweet potatoes.

Hair Brush Types

A Flip-In Guide To Hair Brush Types

Choosing the correct hair brush types may be overwhelming, and your decision will depend on both your hair type and what you want to get out of brushing your hair. Here at Flip-In, we want to make sure you’re using the right hair brush types for you. With such a variety to choose from, it can be hard to tell them apart. Do you know which, for example, would be best for your Flip-In Hair extensions?

Finding the appropriate hairbrush may sound like a menial task, but as this is something that will be part of your everyday routine, having it in place is going to make the world of difference. We’re not just talking about hairbrushes that detangle either, but rather those that are best for your particular hair type, for preventing breakages and for bad hair days. Discover more below.

Hairbrush Types

Hair Brush Types: Paddle Brushes

Paddle brushes usually have bristles coming out of a soft cushion and are great for massaging the scalp, detangling knots and smoothing naturally straight hair. A paddle brush is also perfect for use after you’ve straightened your hair. The wide, flat brush makes it a better companion for straightening as it smooths your hair to create a pin-straight look! A paddle brush will work wonders for your Flip-In Hair extensions as well – whether you’re using a Flip-In Flash or Ponytail

Wide-Toothed Combs

When our hair is wet it’s at its most vulnerable and is more prone to breakages than at any other time, especially when we brush it. Using a wide-toothed comb means you can brush through your wet hair without the worry of damaging it. These combs are also great for evenly distributing leave-in products. When doing this, it’s important to make sure these products are distributed properly. Otherwise, clumps of product can be left to their own devices and you’ll need to wash them out.

Boar Bristle Brushes

Boar bristle brushes are best for those with curly hair. As curly hair is naturally drier and coarser, a boar bristle brush helps to distribute the hair’s natural oils and spread them out properly, adding a little extra moisture to your curls. They’ll also get rid of any dead strands, leaving your hair healthier and shinier!

Hair Brush Types For Your Extensions

We find that a simple detangling brush would work best for your hair extensions. This type of brush won’t be too harsh on them and will help tame any frizz. Boar bristle brushes are also useful for taming frizzy extensions, leaving them silky and shiny!

Favourite Hairstyles

Our Top Tips And Favourite Hairstyles This Festival Season

As you may have heard… festival season is back on the cards and we couldn’t be more excited! It’s been a little while now since we pulled our wellies out of the shed or Googled ‘how to put up a tent’, and we can’t wait to get started. But, in between reminding ourselves about the outdoors essentials, who amongst us has thought about their Favourite Hairstyles?

After all, you can’t forget about nailing that all-encompassing festival look, not this year at least!

So, if you haven’t splashed out on the fancy showers and the hairdryers, those of you sleeping in a tent will need some help keeping your hair fresh. That’s why we’re going to share our top tips for ensuring that your hair remains looking fabulous this festival season, with a few go-to favourite hairstyles thrown in for good measure. Let’s get started!

Favourite Hairstyles Flip-In Hair

The Last Shower…

Make the most of your last shower before you head out on the open road or jump on a train. You’ll definitely need to cover all bases when you’re in the cubicle, so make sure to wash and shampoo your hair before you set off.

When you condition your hair, most of the product should be applied to the lengths of your hair, not the roots. This will ensure that your hair appears shiny, not oily – we want to avoid that for as long as possible!

If you can, you should also make time for a hair mask – even if you only leave it in for ten minutes! Giving your hair a little bit of extra TLC before the exciting weekend ahead is also a good shout. If you have any hydrating products, now is the time to embrace them. Using a light leave-in conditioner will be sure to cushion the blow should you cause any damage to your tresses.

Step Away From The Other Products!

We need to draw the line at leave-in conditioner for now. The other products you would normally use at this point will do you more harm than good at a festival! Mousse, hairspray, serum and pretty much anything else you can think of will weigh your hair down and make it look greasy much quicker. We know it can be tempting but it’s for your own good!

‘What about dry shampoo?’, we hear you ask. Dry shampoo is an absolute godsend when it comes to festivals but it works best when your hair is already dirty. It will soak up excess oil but only if there’s any there to start with! With that in mind, try to use dry shampoo when you really need to. If your hair is on the greasier side, you may need to use this sooner, but if you can, hold off until before you go to bed after the first day, or till your second morning.

Don’t forget to comb or brush (whichever you prefer) your hair regularly even though you’re bound to be distracted – you don’t want to come home with knots and split ends! Your hair is probably going to go through a lot anyway, so there’s no need to make the situation worse.

Our Favourite Hairstyles To See You Through The Weekend

The possibilities are endless when it comes to hairstyles, but we know that not all hairstyles are created equal! Before you set off, make sure you have an idea of what you want to do with your hair. This means you can spend less time thinking about styling and more time enjoying yourself. Your efforts might be in vain if the heavens open but that’s the risk we take… don’t you just love the British summertime? It might be wise to pop a waterproof jacket in your backpack for good measure.

For the first day or two, why not keep your hair down? You’ll be having so much fun, you won’t even notice it anyway. Let your hair dry naturally and maybe scrunch it a little bit to create some effortless ‘I woke up like this waves’ à la Alex Chung at Glastonbury. Your hair will most likely still look pretty good the morning after, so make the most of it! A half-up, half-down has a lot of potential at this point, don’t you think? Or you could twist the sides and pin them back, moving on to the perfect mini messy bun before you whip out your dry shampoo.

Towards the end of the weekend, braids or buns are your best friend. If you struggle with braiding your own hair, chances are your friend will help you – what else are friends for, right? Braids are perfect for disguising greasy hair so if your dry shampoo isn’t quite cutting the mustard anymore, no one will notice!

Braids can be intimidating if you’ve not attempted them before, but this handy guide is perfect for beginners. If braids aren’t your thing, try some buns! A top-knot, messy bun or space buns are our personal favorites. We know these styles aren’t revolutionary but they’re quick, easy and will leave you with plenty of time to live your best life!

When all else fails – accessorise. Throw on a hat or a bandanna, you can’t go wrong with either of them. We know they’re a bit 2009, but we’re not entirely opposed to flower crowns either, they’re still super-cute and we’ve been told they’re back! If it’s the very last day, it’s definitely not the end of the world if you decide to add some hair glitter into the mix, after all, you’ll be reunited with your shower in no time.

What About Extensions For Your Favourite Hairstyles?

There’s no reason why you can’t wear your extensions at a festival! Our extensions don’t require any clips, glue or weaving so they’re perfect when it comes to switching up your look in a flash! If you’re more of a ponytail person, don’t worry! Our ponytail extensions give you the extra length and volume you want in no time at all.

At Flip-In Hair, we can help you create virtually any style you like so if you want to add a pop of colour to elevate your favourite hairstyles this festival season – we’ve got you covered! If it’s the length and volume you’re after, we can do that too. Caring For Your Extensions

Caring For Your Extensions

Buying hair extensions isn’t the cheapest thing to do, which is why it’s important to take care of them to give them the longest lifespan possible. Much like if you were to buy a new pair of trainers or handbag, looking after these products is going to benefit you (and your pocket) in the long run.

Extensions Care

Why Is Caring For Your Extensions Important?

Extensions aren’t attached to your scalp, so they don’t receive constant nutrients and oil deposits in the same way as your hair does. They are chemically processed, which means they are drier and slightly coarser than your natural hair. Due to this, you’ll want to use ingredients that will replenish and add moisture to your hairpieces.

Which Ingredients Should I Avoid?

Products that contain sulfates, parabens, bleach and short-chain alcohols can damage hair extensions. These ingredients can cause your extensions to dry out! They may also be listed under names such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), propyl and isopropyl. Avoid using products that contain these substances.

Which Ingredients Will Benefit My Extensions?

When choosing products for your extensions you should be looking out for those that contain long-chain fatty alcohols. Products featuring coconut oil or palm oil will benefit you as they’ll draw moisture into the hair and add a smooth, slippery texture to help with detangling. Generally, these ingredients are found in conditioners and deep conditioning treatments.

Aim for Morrocan oil, argan oil or castor oil-based products. These will help to hydrate and moisten your hairpieces.

How Should I Wash My Extensions?

When it comes to washing your extensions it is important to remember that they don’t receive the same oils and nutrients as your natural hair, therefore, it’s not necessary to wash them as often as you would your own hair.

A good rule of thumb is to wash them every 30 days or when they become difficult to style as this means there’s a build-up of product!

Here are some steps to follow when washing your Flip-In Wefts

  • Brush your extensions and rid them of any tangles.
  • Shampoo each weft individually – this will help prevent tangling.
  • Condition each weft individually – leave the products to soak in for around 10 minutes.
  • Apply a deep conditioner – leave this in overnight for the best results.
  • Rinse hair thoroughly – ensure there’s no slippery texture to the hair.
  • Rinse under cold water – this will close the cuticles ensuring the moisture stays in the hair.
  • Air-dry your extensions – using heat will create frizz and could potentially damage the hair.

Hair Trends

A Whistle-Stop Tour Of The Last 100 Years Of Hair Trends

A lot has happened in the last 100 years, times have changed and so has hair! Imagine telling a flapper girl a century ago that there would eventually be a device small enough to put into your handbag (depending on the size of your bag, of course) that could curl or straighten your hair in a matter of seconds? She’d need a lie-down!

Why don’t you take a break too? Grab a cuppa and get ready to learn about the last 100 years of hair trends

1920s – The Roaring Twenties

The roaring 20s were famous for their extravagance and rebellion! Back then, anyone who dared to call themselves a fashionable young woman wouldn’t be seen dead without a bob! This short, angular style was first met by a lot of resistance but as with most things, it was soon welcomed into the fold.

It was easy to maintain and women adored feeling liberated after chopping off their locks! If you wanted to transform your look in the 1920s, you could curl your hair using scraps of material to create tight, springy curls. Are you now thinking about how you could brush up on your heat-free styling knowledge? We’ve got you covered, check out our blog post from March!

1960s – The Swinging Sixties

Fast-forward forty years and the world had changed even more! We’d been through another World War and things were relatively normal once more. A hip new band from Liverpool called The Beatles were on the scene and absolutely everyone was trying to put together the biggest beehive possible.

Created by Margaret Vinci Held in 1960, the beehive became the most popular hairstyle of the decade and was worn by everyone, from Aretha Franklin to Audrey Hepburn. Towering hair was now the popular style and women around the world were back-combing and hair-spraying more than ever. If your hair wasn’t as high as possible in the 60s, it may have been wavy and flowing instead. Hippies were also a common sight at the time and their carefree attitude extended to their hair – they were more concerned with music than worrying about hairspray!

1970s – Fighting Crime And Keeping Time

Peace and love weren’t the words on everyone’s lips anymore but hair trends are still a very big deal. Many women were trying to recreate American actress Farrah Fawcett’s feathered hair after her rise to stardom following the television series ‘Charlie’s Angels’. Others were keeping their hair long and straight, a style popularised by Cher – who still rocks that look today! Both of these styles have stood the test of time, proving that most looks make their way back into the mainstream after a few decades away.

Hair Trends

1990s – You Gotta Get With My Friends

Skip the big, permed hair trends of the 1980s and you’ll find The Spice Girls at the top of their game a decade later. After watching Friends, everybody wanted ‘The Rachel’ and Jennifer Aniston’s iconic hairstyle soon became one of the most famous in history! Almost twenty years on, we’re still talking about it, so it seems like Jen’s stylist certainly did something right.

Hair Trends

The Present Day

As you’re probably aware, a lot has gone down in the 21st century, and we’re only 21 years in! Ross and Rachel finally decided if they were on or off and Cher is still as iconic as ever. We’ve moved on from butterfly clips and roll-on hair glitter to barrel wavers and air stylers but there’s one thing we all know – we can do anything we want to our hair.

Flip-In Hair can help you make any style you want a reality – whether it’s adding a flash of colour or simply creating the length and volume you desire.

Our wired extensions don’t require clips, glue or weaving so you can put them in and take them out in no time, allowing you to change your look even if you change your mind. Don’t forget about our colour match service so your hair can stay as seamless as possible!

Hair Styling Ideas

No-Heat Hair Styling Ideas

“Hi, the 2000s called and asked for their non-protective, heat-damaging hairstyles back!”

Straighteners and curling wands may have been your best friend in the past but, sweetie, they were definitely not good to your hair. It’s time to ditch the heat damage and liven up your hair with these no-heat hair styling ideas!

Hair Styling Ideas

Overnight Curls

If you can manage to put your overnight oats in the fridge every evening then you can absolutely spend 10 minutes of your night-time routine on some overnight curls! This simple hairstyle can be created in super-quick time and the longest part is sleeping on it – perfect for a lazy Sunday night. You can even apply this hairstyle to your Flip-In wefts with ease as well!

Beach Waves

You don’t have to use curling wands or straighteners to get the super-cute beach wave look! We’ve got a simple style for you to try out! Ensuring your hair is damp, split your hair in a middle-parting and weave in two Dutch braids on either side. This is another style you can leave overnight for better results! Use the Flip-In Original to add length to this windswept, tomboyish hairstyle.

Hair Styling Ideas

Space Buns

Right, it’s getting closer to your hair wash day and your luscious locks are feeling greasier as the hours go by. Of course, we could recommend some dry shampoo and send you on your way, but that’s not our style. You can choose either high or low space buns (we’d recommend high for ultimate grease coverage). Using a middle parting and some patience, twist each section into a bun for a cool and quirky look! For more volume use Flip-In wefts to create thicker buns.

90s Pigtails

As we’re all well aware, the 90s are back and Britney’s iconic pigtails are making the rounds this year. Put together a more modern version of this classic with the half-up/half-down style. Split the top sections in two, preferably using a middle parting, and easily create your pigtails! For an extra pop of colour use Flip-In Flash.

heat damage

Heat Damage and How To Avoid It

Hairdryers, curling irons, straighteners – where would we be without them?

For many of us, these heat-based appliances are inseparable parts of our daily quests to throw together the perfect look, whether we want our locks to sit in tight ringlets, lie flat or demonstrate their natural curls.

But what of the heat damage associated with the use of these tools and the impact it can have on the strength and health of our hair?

It’s a sad fact that frequently exposing the hair to extremes of temperature can leave it  brittle and broken, with compromised keratin proteins and a cracked cuticle (the hair’s outer layer) contributing to split ends, dryness and seemingly unmanageable knots and tangles.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way – heat damage can be avoided, and here’s how!

Be strict with your styling times

Look, we get it, your hair is important to you, but spending too much time under the blow dryer or with your hair wrapped around your latest styling product only has one outcome: serious heat damage!

via GIPHY

Be less absent-minded when you use these tools and keep a check on just how long you’re spending on your look. We’d recommend using things such as curling irons in short, ten-second bursts and ensuring that all of your appliances are always on the lowest heat setting. Your hair will thank you later.

Heat protection

One of the best arguments we’ve come across for the use of a heat protectant is that it’s the equivalent of making sure you apply sunscreen before leaving the house on a hot day. Simple, right?

By applying a heat protectant ahead of your hair-styling routine, you’re actively taking steps to reduce your risk of heat damage. This is because the ingredients featured in these products slow down the rate at which your hair conducts heat.

Remember, though, that these sprays and formulas can only do so much, so you still need to make sure that you’re limiting your usage of heat-based appliances as much as you can.

Look after your hair

It’s been suggested that heat damage is much more of a possibility should you fail to properly look after your hair on a day-to-day basis, and this is something that should go without saying.

The use of shampoos and conditioners that feature sulphates and parabens has been identified as a major factor in the development of dry, lacklustre-looking hair – a departure into brittleness that can only be exacerbated by the application of heat to already-damaged locks.

via GIPHY

Avoid this by switching to hair-washing products that are free of these destructive ingredients. There are plenty of these out there.

Go heat-free!

By far and away the best method of beating heat damage is to swear off heating appliances altogether. Sound like too much to handle? It really isn’t.

Though they may be more time-consuming (you have time, there’s a lockdown on!), you could use more “primitive” tools such as curlers and rollers to help you achieve your hair goals, not to mention the plethora of styles that can be put together with minimal accessories: braids and updos, anyone?

It should also be obvious by now that our extensive range of hair extensions can also provide a great alternative to heat-styled hair. These are made from 100% human hair and can be added and removed in an instant, giving you the chance to embrace a new style at will!
